Male Koi shapes are genetically less elegant and generally tend not to grow quite as big, this makes them debatably less valuable.

It's important to note that its quite difficult to determine if a small Koi is male or female and the only real way is to wait till the Koi is sexually mature around two years old, then its less difficult.
