Sanke - 41cm - £495
This Purdin Sanke was born in April 2007. Unimpressive initially the only clue to its actual quality in its formative months was its excellent skin quality and strong frame. For the first summer of its life it grew and developed in the Louisiana mud and thrived in the almost perfect growing conditions.
Mud pond water temperatures in high Baton Rouge summer can hit 90f, while this level of water temperature is great fro growing Koi it also brings dangers. Maintaining oxygen levels is almost an art form and any parasite problem can develop almost overnight. Like all tropical regions summer is typified by relief rain, these tropical thunderstorms suck oxygen out of ponds and dump de aerated water that create water strata’s within the ponds that have virtually zero oxygen – and that’s seriously bad news! Fortunately, over the years Purdin have come to understands the dangers and put measures in place to counter them.
August 2009
The Sanke at 12 months in April 2008 remained an uncertain ‘bet’, with virtually zero sumi and dull white and beni. Grown for a second summer, by October 2008 the Koi was beginning to display some of the attributes looked for in the best Purdin Sanke. Imported into the UK in early May 2009 the Koi has transformed and now is displaying the key elements for a fascinating future – that’s why we have selected this Sanke as our August Koi of the month.
Check out the photos, the first taken in April 2009 shows some quality elements but a distinctive lack of sumi. By late July 2009 the body is beginning to develop and the sumi is emerging.
