THE CLASS OF 2010

Traditionally, summer is a less busy time for Koi breeders. For the Purdin team however Summer 2010 is proving one of the busiest ever. With 9 sets of Oyagoi bred in April and May that means lots, and lots and lots of work culling the babies over the summer. While the UK bakes in some record summer highs, spare a thought for Bill, Maureen and Scott attempting to cull baby Koi in sweltering temperatures approaching 40C!

The Louisiana climate is almost perfect for growing koi, with long hot summers warm autumns and short mild winters. This means we have a 10 month growing period, hurricaines permitting.  One of the problems we have is that its simply impossible to ship Koi after May as the ground and water temperatures are simply too high, thats tough enough, but catching, bowling and them laboriously sifting through literally thousands of baby Koi each day is a tough job. We can feel the sympatthy oozing forth....yeah rite I hear you say!

We just received the first photos taken by Maureen showing just a tiny selection of some of the Koi that this years production has generated. There are some serious baby Koi among them and we cant wait to see them in the flesh!
